Sources read and named

Every entry on this site rests on sources the desk has read. Entries name them at the foot of the page: the airport operator, the regional transit agency, the state department of transportation, the national weather service for Phoenix, and the federal security agency. Where a figure is a planning range rather than a published measurement, the entry says so.

The date an entry was checked

Airports and roads change. A terminal is rebuilt, a train line is extended, a curb is moved, a security rule is updated. Each entry carries the date it was last checked, and the date is part of the record rather than a promise that nothing has moved since.

Corrections

A correction begins with the entry, the sentence and the source that shows the error. The desk reads the source, checks the entry against it, and either revises the entry or explains why the source does not change it. The date of the next check is updated when the text changes.

Photographs

Photographs on this site are generated images made for the entry they illustrate, and each one is captioned as a plate rather than presented as a documentary photograph of a specific day. The caption describes what the image shows; the alt text describes what a screen reader should know.
